Recursive Sacred Geometry of Osiris, Ra
and the Northern Sky
Abstract
Meskhetyu can be interpreted as a
recursive sky-geometry rather than a fixed asterism, with the Big and Little
Bowls linked by square containment, triangular transfer and circular
recurrence. In this model, Compact Geometry provides a unified framework in
which Osiris, Ra and Atum are complementary states of order, motion and
renewal.
Ancient Egyptian sacred geometry can be
read as a system in which circles, squares, and triangles jointly encode sky
order, terrestrial order and transformation. The bowl of the Big Dipper
provides a visible template for this geometry, allowing a single structure to
speak scientifically and religiously.
Method:
1. Define each shape precisely
2. Show the same shape functioning in both
bowls
3. Separate observation from
interpretation
Definitions
a. Frame "perfect square" as a
containment principle.
b. Then "free" means unbounded
by the square while "contained" means integrated into order.
c. In the Big Bowl, Osiris occupies the
open cosmic field while Ra is formalized into square containment.
d. In the Little Bowl, the roles
"invert". Ra is liberated, while Atum remains the hidden, centered
principle enclosed by perfect square order.
The model now has a clear mathematical
link.
. Big Bowl sets the original perfect
square
. 1/2 iteration generates smaller,
corresponding square
. Little Bowl receives the reduced
form
This means the system is recursive rather
than two separate symbols. The implication is that the Little Bowl is a scaled
continuation of the Big bowl.
A. The Bowls are related by fractal
self-similarity and ratio preservation.
1. Establish the square in the Big bowl.
2. Apply a 1/2 linear scaling.
3. Map the result into the Little
bowl.
4. Preserve center, orientation and
symbolic role across the scale change.
B. Treat the 3 handle stars as a triangle
rather than just a line. Then, the triangle can carry 3 functions:
1. One side: Osiris/thigh, the
regenerative base
2. Second side: Ra's solar force,
energized through Osiris
3. The tether/cord, the mechanism of
winding, constraint or release
That makes the triangle as a process
shape, not just a geometric one. The outer handle curves downward.
Transformation: The Triangle as a Process
Shape
a. Osiris provides latent power
b. Ra receives it and renews it
c. The cord regulates the cycle
The three star handle may be read as a
triangular process form, in which Osiris, Ra and the tether constitute three
interacting aspects of regeneration, constraint and release.
Full Model
In the Big Bowl, Osiris is the free
regenerative force, while Ra is held in "square order".
In the Little Bowl, Ra is free, while Atum
is held as the hidden center in "square order".
The handle triangle connects the two bowls
as the mechanism of transfer, unwinding or rebirth.
The Triangle in the Little Dipper Handle
In the Little Dipper, the handle arcs
upward as a potent force. While appearing more linear, it may still be
construed as a triangle. It appears that Atum is energized by the free Ra who
is shining brightly. A "W" formation may also be recognized in the
bowl of the Little Dipper.
However, it is still Osiris who is
tethered. In this case, Osiris is tethered to the pole star Polaris. Indeed,
the whole Little Dipper is ithyphallic in nature, similar to the earth god Geb.
Polaris is the potent tip of the phallus. Polaris is one of the fourteen parts
of Osiris that has been fashioned by Isis.
A more simple way to identify the center
of the Big bowl is to draw a straight line from Polaris in the Little Dipper
handle to the middle of the "W" of the Big bowl. Use the Serge Print
font to draw the letter. It meets the centre at the baseline of Megrez-Dubhe.
Since the Dippers themselves are complimentary, too, this means it represents
Osiris's regenerative power.
The Circle
The Ouroboros, the serpent or dragon
eating its own tail, is commonly associated with cycles, renewal, rebirth, and
self-sustaining life, which can extend to fertility and fecundity in some
traditions. It is not though universally a fertility symbol. That meaning
depends on the cultural or esoteric context.
In some Egyptian interpretations, the
ouroboros is associated with Atum-Ra--especially in contexts of cyclical
creation, renewal, and the sun's daily rebirth. In fact, the first recorded
instance of the Ouroboros appears in the Enigmatic Book of the Netherworld. In
Egyptian mythology, the ouroboros was associated with the god Atum and the
cyclical nature of the cosmos, signifying the eteranl cycle of life, death and
rebirth. (The Symbolism of the Ouroboros Across Cultures, March 17, 2025, The
Archaeologist).
In some Egyptian contexts, especially the
Enigmatic Book of the Netherworld found in Tutankhamun's tomb, the ouroboros is
linked to the union of Ra and Osiris in the underworld and can be read as
symbolizing rebirth or the cyclical renewal of Osiris. One serpent loops around
the head and upper body. Another loop surrounds the feet. The union allowed the
sun to be renewed through the underworld. (Ouroboros Symbol Meaning: Ancient
Egypt, History, Philosophy and Legacy, Mohamed Saad, August 27, 2025)
1. The circle is the larger cycle that
makes the whole system repeat.
1. The first point is the Osiris/thigh
principle
2. The second point is the Ra/Sun renewal
principle
3. The third point is the tether/cord
principle
4. Together, they generate movement
between containment and release.
Therefore, this model is a unified
geometry.
Square = fixed structure
Triangle = active transition
Circle = recurring cosmic time
The Cord: Three Levels
1. Literal/astronomical: A line of stars
or orientation.
2. Symbolic: The force that binds, winds
or releases.
3. Divine: A god or goddess.
The strongest connection is to Seshet, who
is associated with measurement, surveying and founding rituals.
In this system, the measuring rod can
function as the grounded axis or the act of fixing geometry in space and the
point where celestial pattern becomes earthly order. This means it relates to
the square, triangle and circle framework as the act that makes the pattern
real on the ground.
In this model, Ra's daily passage can
serve as the clearest example of free vs. restrained.
Day: Ra is manifest, visible, free
Night: Ra is enclosed, hidden and moving
through the Duat.
Circle = the full cycle of Ra's journey
Square = restraint, enclosure, bounded
order
Triangle = transition between states
Ra alternates between liberation and
confinement. The bowls are read as complementary cosmic states.
Osiris and Ra were interconnected from the
Old Kingdom onward, and even more in the Middle and New Kingdom. Osiris was
tied to death, renewal and the afterlife: Ra to kinship, cosmic order and the
afterlife. Overtime, Egyptian theology often fused them in forms like
Ra-Osiris, especially in funerary texts and afterlife beliefs.
The Nature of Time
Neheh is cyclical and recurring time. Djet
is enduring and fixed time. In this model, Neheh fits the circle and Ra's daily
renewal. Djet fits the square of anchored geometry and the hidden permanent
structure behind Osiris/Atum. The triangle is the bridge between Neheh and
Djet; the two base points are the stable opposites. The apex is the active
transition that links them.
The Natural Triangle that Relates to this
Model
It is Megrez-Alkaid-Thuban-Megrez (M-A-T).
It acts as a closed geometric loop.
Megrez = internal center
Alkaid = tether/transfer point
Thuban = axial or pole reference
M-A-T becomes a triangle-plus-return form:
A triangle that revolves back into its center. This links the visible handle,
the old north axis and the hidden organizing node.
Megrez to Alkaid: Inner structure moves
outward into tethered motion.
Alkaid to Thuban: The tether aligns toward
the old north axis.
Thuban to Megrez: The axis returns inward
to the hidden center in the Big Dipper bowl.
So, the triangle reads as:
center
constraint/transfer
axis
back to center
This makes it a cycle of orientation
rather than a static shape.
Summary
This model treats the Big Dipper as a
recursive geometric system in which, square, triangle and circle encode
containment, transition, and cosmic cycles. In the Big bowl, Osirus is the
free, regenerative principle while Ra is confined in a "square order".
In the Little Dipper, Ra is free while Atum remains the hidden centered
principle. The two bowls are linked by 1/2 scaling, so the smaller square is a
reduced iteration of the larger one. The three handle stars form a triangle of
process, with Megrez as inner center, Alkaid as tether point, and Thuban as
axial reference. This creates a cycle from center to constraint to axis and
back again. Read this way, Neheh corresponds to recurring solar motion and the
circle, while Djet corresponds to fixed, sacred order and the square.
